ABOUT OYSTER SHELL VILLA
Set on the north coast of Kent, the Oyster Shell is a bright and breezy detached modern house with views over Whitstable Bay. Far-reaching sea views are complemented by the interiors within, with flourishes of intense blue and grey hues, creating a fresh, coastal ambiance inside as well as out. Metropolitan types seeking a chic weekend escape will find this contemporary house and its ergonomic design an obvious choice for luxury self-catering staycations within easy reach of London.
The house is particularly suitable for groups of friends or extended families and also those with reduced mobility as there are private areas as well as open-plan areas and bedrooms on the ground floor. Older guests find having easy access and no steps particularly useful, and the house lends itself to having some of the family upstairs relaxing in the lounge and balcony whilst others are in the ground floor living areas and garden so you don’t get on top of each other.
Make a reservationThe 4 beautifully bedecked bedrooms offer a vision of wispy summer whites with splashes of aqua and fine linens to ensure the aura of contemporary seaside chic flows throughout. On the ground floor there is a euro-king sized bedroom and another twin bedroom on the ground floor with access to the garden via French doors. Both these bedrooms have an ensuite toilet and large showers, and one also has a bath and are the bedrooms for the sleeps 4 rate. The top floor bedroom has a modern-meets-maritime theme with a king bed and large family bathroom (including bath and separate large shower) and there is also another twin room with views over the back garden and across the bay. On request there is luxurious fold-down bed in the ground floor study/den that makes a fifth bedroom but occupancy will always be restricted to 8 people.
Take a breakfast of fresh coffee and pastries onto the sun trap patio or the wrap-around balcony, neatly bordered by flowering troughs for extra privacy. There is also a gas BBQ and plenty of outdoor seating to relax in and the beach is but 5 minutes walk. With the town centre a walk away, go on an on-foot adventure to find some of the UK’s best oyster and wine bars such as Wheelers on the high street. A smorgasbord of shingle beaches, galleries and boutiques make Whitstable an all-year-round mecca for visitors with a refined taste. At sundown, dine al fresco on the patio with succulent barbecued seafood and savour the vista of seabirds and sailboats passing by in the distance. Retire to the balcony to finish the day to the tune of chinking glasses and family merriment.
Expanses of glass flood this modern house with a warm luminosity; from the patio windows to the French balcony doors, where tranquil sea views can be admired from almost every angle. Step onto the balcony and breathe in the fresh sea salt air to feel cleansed from head to toe. When rain clouds burst overhead, there’s nothing quite like the sound of rain on the window panes with the comfort of a sumptuous sofa, glowing fire and favourite novel in hand. The house has a separate downstairs study / TV room for those who want to relax and play away from the main lounge.
The Oyster Shell has parking for 2-3 cars behind secure gates with a further space outside, the garden is fully enclosed and all external areas of the house are covered by CCTV. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer in the downstairs utility room. An electric oven, microwave, gas hob, fridge/freezer, wine fridge, toaster and Nespresso machine can be found in the kitchen. There is a modern TV with iPlayer etc in the living room and also in the downstairs study/den (which also has a DVD player). There is a gas BBQ on the ground floor patio. The upstairs lounge also has a large log-burning stove for extra heat.
